Every day in the Top End, native animals are hit by cars, displaced by storms, orphaned, injured, or left behind with no one to help them.
When that happens, Woollybutt Wildlife Rescue Inc steps in — but we can’t do it alone.
Behind every rescue is a volunteer.
Behind every recovery is someone who chose to care.
Volunteering with Woollybutt isn’t just giving your time — it’s being a lifeline for an animal on its worst day.

There is something deeply powerful about helping a wild animal when it is scared, hurt or alone.
As a Woollybutt volunteer, you may:
These moments stay with you.
They remind you why compassion matters, why community matters, and why wildlife needs people who care enough to act.
Volunteering is emotional, challenging and incredibly rewarding — and once you’ve helped save a life, it’s hard to imagine not doing it again.

Open your home and your heart to native animals in need. Carers provide feeding, warmth, safety and patience while animals recover. This role is deeply rewarding and supported with training, mentoring and guidance.

Be the link between danger and safety. Rescue and transport volunteers help collect animals in need and get them to vets or carers as quickly as possible. Often, this role makes the difference between life and death.

Sometimes saving wildlife starts with answering the phone. Volunteers help take rescue calls, gather information and coordinate responses. It’s a vital role that helps animals get help faster.

From BBQs to markets to community education, these volunteers help keep Woollybutt going. Every sausage sold, every conversation started and every dollar raised helps fund care, food, vet bills and equipment.

You don’t need to be an expert.
You don’t need to have done this before.
What matters is kindness, commitment and a willingness to learn.
We provide training, support and a community that understands both the joy and the heartbreak that comes with wildlife rescue.

If you’ve ever felt helpless seeing injured wildlife…
If you’ve ever wished you could do more…
If you believe our native animals deserve care, respect and a second chance…
This is your opportunity.
