Woollybutt Wildlife Rescue Inc is a dedicated, volunteer-run organisation based in Darwin, NT. We were formed by a passionate group of carers who saw the need for a reliable, community driven rescue service in the Top End.
Our story began with a simple belief: Every animal matters. From the tiniest possum joey to the largest kangaroo, from injured kingfishers to snakes caught on roadsides, each life has value and deserves the chance to return to the wild.
We are proud to be a grassroots organisation built on compassion, resilience, and local knowledge. Our team includes experienced wildlife carers, rescuers, and support volunteers who give their time freely to ensure native animals in distress get the help they need. We operate across Darwin, Palmerston, rural, and remote NT responding to calls at all hours, every day of the year.
Although Woollybutt Wildlife Rescue Inc is newly incorporated (August 2025), our members have been rescuing and rehabilitating wildlife for many years. Together, we are building a strong foundation to deliver lasting change for both wildlife and community education.

Woollybutt Wildlife Rescue Inc is powered by a dedicated team of licensed wildlife carers, rescuers, transporters, and volunteers who share a deep commitment to the welfare of native wildlife.
Our team includes carers experienced in caring for a wide range of species — from tiny possum joeys and birds to macropods, reptiles, and bats. Many of our volunteers juggle wildlife care alongside fulltime work and family life, providing round-the-clock feeds, medical care, and rehabilitation support when animals need it most.
We pride ourselves on being a supportive, mentoring-focused organisation. New carers are guided by experienced members of the team, and we work closely together to ensure best-practice care, strong communication, and positive outcomes for every animal that comes into our care.

Woollybutt Wildlife Rescue Inc operates through a trusted network of licensed wildlife carers across the Darwin region and greater Top End. Our carers provide safe, species-appropriate care from their own homes, allowing animals to receive individual attention in quiet, low-stress environments.
Each carer is supported with mentoring, training, and access to veterinary care, specialised equipment, and emergency support. This model allows us to respond quickly to rescues across a wide area and ensures animals are cared for by people experienced in their specific needs.
